Frequently Asked QuestionsI've got DSL. Why should I switch? Can I keep my same email account if I use your services? How many email addresses can I have? What geographical area does the high speed internet access cover? What equipment is needed to use your service? AnswersI've got DSL or Satellite. Why should I switch? NRVU's wireless access is up to eight times faster. We are much less expensive than satellite and offer significantly better bandwidth and reduced latency (delay). NRVU specifically allows multiple computers in the same household to connect (see question below). Can I keep my same email account if I use your services? If you have email through your ISP (AOL, Earthlink, Comcast, etc.) they will charge you an additional amount in order to keep your email address. If you have free or low-cost services such as Yahoo, Hotmail, etc., you can keep the same email as these web based addresses will work with our access. How many email addresses can I have? Each account comes with eight (8) email addresses. If for some reason you need additional email accounts, please contact us. What geographical area does NRVU cover? NRVU serves the area from Christiansburg to Riner to Pilot Mountain using wireless technology to bring the Internet to you. New access points will be added to serve additional regions as we grow. What equipment is needed to use your service? Any computer or network device, for example, a computer with a network connection or a DSL or Cable router that can connect to a standard network cable. A firewall is required for connection to the NRVU network. This function is frequently included in the DSL/Cable Routers mentioned above and come with a variety of features. NRVU will provide a basic unit at time of installation or you may buy your own if you desire additional features. We are currently providing DLink 514 wireless routers with installation. Virtually any unit on the market is acceptable but double check with the installer or salesperson. I have more than one computer at home. Does it cost extra to use multiple computers with your service? No. Multiple computers (per residence) are allowed to connect at the same time. We charge one flat access rate of $35.00 per month regardless of the number of computers you own. What about my wireless laptop? Can I use your service? Will use of the wireless laptop interfere with your service? Not only can you use your wireless laptop/desktop within your home, we actually provide a wireless access point/router with initial installation. Your internal wireless system should be configured to use a different channel than the one used to link to your home. Please ask the NRVU installation person for details.
